Opioid Therapy Statement

Rim Country Pain Services is committed to improving the function and quality of life of its patients.  We do this with  safe, effective, and comprehensive treatment plans.  Our treatment plans reduce the risks and maximize the benefits of pain treatment with opioids (otherwise known as narcotics).  This practice goes to great lengths to protect our patients from the risks that are associated with opioid therapy.  We stringently follow DEA recommendations regarding the prescribing of opioids.  Patient safety is of utmost importance to this practice.

We only prescribe opioid medications if we determine a patient is a candidate for this therapy after a thorough evaluation.

We typically do not prescribe high doses of opioids, as research continues to show greater risks for patients receiving high dose opioids and less long-term benefits of therapy compared to patients who receive only low doses of opioids.

Treatment options include:

• Refill and maintenance of intrathecal pumps
• Management of spinal cord stimulation
• Joint injections
• Trigger point injections
• Occipital nerve block
• Chronic opioid therapy
• Adjuvant therapy (ultization of compounding products)
